We use a 10.0.0.0/8 block, to meet everyone requirements. The default range is 10.0.0.0/24 and is carefully designed for QoS purposes.

If you plug your device in our network, you'll receive by our DHCP server an address between 10.0.0.38 and 10.0.0.99

If you wish your static IP, please read the guidelines to add yourself in this block or create a new one.

The range 172.22.183.0/24 is linked to DN42.

Block assignment

IP Range Device name Owner or custodian Description DN42 IP
10.0.0.26 Mobile devices Ilium Dereckson HTC Touch Cruise
10.0.0.100 Servers Guenhwyvar Dereckson FreeBSD 8.2 server - stable services 172.122.183.100
10.0.0.101 Servers Scherzo Dereckson FreeBSD-CURRENT server - testing, staging, etc. 172.122.183.101

How to add a device to the block

If you take a static IP in this block, your device have to be a name compliant with RFC 1178 (anything you chose with care is probably okay, my-computer or le-portable-de-kevin or Dell-YN9cgSfOSjvbb isn't). If you don't have a RFC 1178 compliant name, use DHCP or create another IP range.

To add yourself:

  • Start always-there computers at 10.0.0.8 and increase.
  • Start often-there computers at 10.0.0.24 and decrease.
  • Numbers matters, if you've a favourite number, take it.
  • Dereckson will be happy to assign you a number if you feel lost.

Your machine will quickly be assigned a yourcomputername.wolf domain.

How to create a new block?

  1. Add it in network topology section
  2. Create a new section for your block with a table
  3. Add direct a devices assignment table, if that makes sense to.
  4. Don't forget to add instructions and policies if it's different from Feel free to do as you want.
