In a nutshell, what's the hackerspace status?

We're in our bootstrapping stage:

  • we've workshops, workgroups, a website is building and we've some active core members.
  • we've some meeting places at Charleroi (mainly members flats, as tavern rooms weren't the best solution)
  • we've very soon a local (see below) in front of the Charleroi rail station.
  • we founded Wolfplex Hackerspace ASBL, an ASBL/VZW (nonprofit organization] ; our corporation number is BE 0835 997 795.

We're currently waiting the statutes are published in the Moniteur Belge / Belgisch Staatsblad (it's the Belgian official journal) to sign a contract with our landlord and we'll open our local.

ASBL

We founded a nonprofit organization, "Wolfplex Hackerspace ASBL", to be the legal entity which supports the hackerspace projects (ie raise money and pay the bill).

  • Text of our bylaws/statutes can be red on the Statuts page.
  • HSBXL (Brussels hackerspace) give us a 150 € donation to cover the publication costs.
  • Bylaws have been deposited to Greffe du tribunal de commerce de Charleroi end April.

Local / Space

  • The place is located at Charleroi, in the Ville Basse, in front of the Charleroi-Sud rail station and the water.
  • It's a part of a builing which belongs to one of our member.
  • Size is 70-80 m², it were a occulist cabinet.
  • Wolfplex Hackerspace ASBL and the landowner will sign a commodate (legal term for a gratis loan)
  • We'll pay for water, electricity, etc.

Membership

To be a member of the hackerspace, please fill this form and mail it back to participate@wolfplex.home.kg.

Membership fee is 10 € per month, reduced to 7 € for low/none incomes people. If this is still to much, please get in touch with us, as nobody will be excluded for financial reasons.

You can join the hackerspace, the ASBL or both. The monthly fee is the same whatever you choose.

If you wish to support the project without be a member, you can also make a donation.

Cf. the Payment page.

The road to members

How are we going to get in touch with new people, so the know the place exists?

The usual stuff

Everyone could come to pay a visit to the space: new people interested by the hackerspace will be able to come at a workshop, but also at ours Tuesday circles (weekly meetings).

Infrastructure will be ready to drive new projects and so any can come and start a new project.

The new hackers generation

This summer, we'll advertise in IT schools something like this to bring new hackers generation: "Do you code a software? Are you toying with electronics? Do you wish to present it, share your toughts with people sharing your interests? Or do you need a little coaching, a place where all is ready to work?"

We'll also see how to provide internship possibilities.

The Airport connection

We'll offer the possibility to hackers in transit at Charleroi to come and:

  • if they're in hurry, to sign our "airport transit" guestbook and have a coffee or a club mate.
  • if they've some time, to give a little talk or worskshop or just relax.
